Changing Landscapes - Mediterranean Sensitive Areas Design
The Changing Landscape/ Mediterranean Sensitive Areas Design Project is a joint program which brings together European Schools of Architecture and Landscape design. It focuses on Mediterranean critical areas, where the landscape (in terms of value and quality), imbeds a cultural dimension and serves as source of reference.
For the 2011 Erasmus IP edition, we will work on five sites of the broader area of the city of Volos in Greece. All the sites are characterized by the prominent element of water and they constitute landscapes of unique asset, nature or infrastructure. The projects’ sites selected are constituted by the south part of the city waterfront, a restored lake and its surrounding shores, a coastal industrial area adjacent to an abandoned quarry, the seasonal aspects of a river’s banks and the reinvigoration of an island.
Working on these sites during this IP program offers the opportunity to share knowledge and intersect different attitudes, strategies and politics of intervention, aspiring to discover new approaches, solutions and design methods in a contemporary context.
